2011 Ocean Salmon and Halibut Season

April 14th, 2011
Westport King

Westport King

Our ocean salmon seasons have been announced and they look good.  Starting June 18 we will start fishing out of Westport for hatchery chinook.

On June 26 the ocean opens up for both chinook and coho.  Westport will only be open Sunday through Thursday and Ilwaco, La Push and Neah Bay will be open seven days a week.  We are expecting a good portion of the king run to be 4 and 5 year old fish – BIG!.

I will be fishing Westport most of the time but will be offering trips all along the coast.  If you are interested in a specific area give us a call.  We customize our trips.

Our halibut season at La Push will be on May 12, 14, 19, 21 and June 2 and 4.  We have space available on June 2 and 4.  We also have a few ling cod days left before the deepwater fishery closes on May 21.  Looks like a great summer ahead.  Make those plans ahead of time toensure you get that king of a lifetime!

Don’t forget our Tuna also.

Westport Ocean Salmon
The 2011 Ocean Salmon, Halibut and Bottomfish season are just around the corner.  All indications are for another great king salmon year and a pretty good coho return.  This is year is also a humpy (pink) year so you may have an extra salmon or two to take home.   It looks like we will get a short June king opener.  June last year out of Westport provided some of the best king fishing in years.  Put your plans together and get ready.
Don’t forget tuna!

Olympic Peninsula Winter Steelhead Fishing Report

January 25th, 2011

Ty Davidson's 15# Snider Creek Steelhead

Steelhead fishing continues to be good on the Olympic Peninsula.  Here are a couple of nice Snider Creek Broodstock fish from the Sol Duc the last few days. I have never seen better fisherman than these two guys.  After losing their first five fish of the day in about a 3o minute span first thing in the morning they redeamed themselves quite well by landing several in a row.  Nice job guys!

Come over with us and go fishing.

Olympic Peninsula Steelhead Fishing Report and 2011 Halibut and Lingcod

Go Lingcod Fishing!

Mark Faile with his 16# Hatchery Steelhead

Fishing has been great on the Peninsula this year to date.  Looking forward to the return of the emerald green waters after this bout of rain that has soaked these beautiful watersheds.  Lots of high water means there will be fresh fish in the river and maybe some new water to fish.   It is always an experience drifting these rivers after an extremely high water.   I’d like to see a few more of these specimans in the fish box.  This picture was from a cell phone as I forgot the camera that day, but the fish is really is a nice one!

Dead ahead is halibut, Lingcod and Rockfish fishing.  Many people don’t realize that fishing for rockfish and lingcod begins in late March.  If the weather cooperates, you can easily get your limits of rockfish and large lingcod out of La Push near Forks.  If you were ever interested in doing this type of fishing, now is the time to do it.   Get on our good weather call list and take advantage of a calm sea day in April or May and go home with a cooler full of fresh fish.   We fish lingcod and rockfish on light G-Loomis fishing rods so you have a fun time while getting your cooler full.  Come join us!

Looking forward to our 2011 ocean salmon season, well after last years king fishery I can’t hardly stand the wait even though the ocean has looked like a dishwasher lately.  Preliminary projections are for another great king season and many more coho. This is a truely popular fishery and Washington West Fishing offers one of the only small charters for 6 or less people on the whole coast.  So get your group together and get a day to head out on the ocean!

                        Westport Ocean Salmon!

Westport King Salmon

The 2011 Ocean Salmon Season is just around the corner.  This year we expect another great year for kings and much better year for coho.  Washington West offers one of the only small 6 man charters on the Washington Coast.  If you have always wanted to fish on a small charter out of Westport Washington that offers a variety of fishing methods please call us.  In 2010 we had limits on over 90% of our trips.  We typically use downriggers and high quality G-Loomis fishihng rods to make your fishing experience and enjoyable one.

Halibut and Lingcod season are also just around the corner.  We will be fishing out of La Push and Westport.  Don’t foget to book early as our halibut days are very limited due to quotas.

Get out and go fishing this year with your friend or family members.

This beautiful ocean king caught by Mike Tucker of Auburn Washington hit the deck wieghing over 30 pounds.  It was one of 12 kings landed that day.

Coho Salmon Fishing – Book early for Halibut and Ling Cod

Owen Rowe with beautiful Fall King
Another great day on the Olympic Peninsula as Owen Rowe landed this large fall king at the end of a long day.  Lots of silvers and a few kings are still showing on the Olympic Peninsula.  Winter steelhead will be arriving shortly but lets not get ahead of ourselves and let these salmon get away so early.  I typically have good days for salmon all the way through Thanksgiving.

2011 Halibut is just around the corner and with only a few days to fish we will book quickly.  So if you want to get out for some great coastal halibut fishing and ling cod fishing give us a call shortly.

Winter Steelhead on the Sol Duc

It is time to think about Washington’s winter steelhead fishing opportunities.  The Bogachield will begin producing hatchery steelhead in just a few short weeks.  Shortly thereafter the other rivers on the Olympic Peninsula like the Sol Duc, Hoh, and Wynoochee will begin producing some hatchery fish and lots of wild fish.  Make this year the year to explore the Olympic Peninsula and catch a winter steelhead.

The wild a scenic rivers of the Olympic Peninsula are a must see.  We hope you take the time to come an join us in Forks, Washington for a day on one of these majestic rivers.  We offer full day guided steelhead fishing trips from December to the second week in April.  We can help arrange your trip.  So please give us a call at (360) 789-8391.

Ocean King Salmon Report

August 16th, 2010

Mike Tucker with a magnificent Wesport king

Been an unbelievable year with limits every day on kings.  Fish are now moving down the coast into Willapa and the Columbia River.  We have been fishing westport down to south of Willapa and been doing very well.  Not many silvers this year.

Starting this week we will be moving down to fish the lower Columbia on the good tides coming up then back to the ocean for salmon and tuna at the end of the month.

Ryan Orr "My Son" gets in on the action

Got my son in on the action.  Love those days when you can get the kids out when its flat and calm.

Bill Boehm's First Tuna Run

Tuna – finally made the first tuna run this year travelling 40 miles and landing 20 tuna.  Magnificent scenery seeing thousands white sided pacific dolphins play around the boat, blue and thesher sharks and seabirds.  Great time so join us some time.

Ocean Charter Salmon Fishing

July 5th, 2010

Ocean salmon season is well underway and the king fishing has been the best that I can remember.  Limits have been easy to come by at Westport.  Right now there are lots of kings and a few silvers.  Kings are averaging 18 – 22 pounds. Most silvers have not been clipped.  I will be fishing Westport for the next several weeks before moving down the coast to Ilwaco to intercept this same group of fish as they stage near Long Beach.  With the number of kings showing now the late summer bite near Ilwaco should be spectacular to say the least.

This nice king was taken on July 4th by Al Carol with his son Andy.  Obvious with kings most of the them have been taken off the downriggers going deep.  We have been running out to about 220 feet and finding lots of bait and fish.  Weather has been relatively good this year so hope for more to come.  Give us a call for more information.  We have a few days still available.

Another nice king last week by a special young lady!
