Winter Run Steehead

Sorry for the delays in reporting since ocean salmon season.  We were extraordinarily busy with our children’s sports.  Ryan, our 8 year old, just finished his first tackle football season for Tumwater.  As a starting linebacker he was a captain and the team went undefeated and won the Thurston County Youth Football League Championship.

Anyway we are back at it and all indications are that we will have a great hatchery winter steelhead season on the Bogachield, Hoh, Sol Duc and Wynoochee Rivers.  Our wild runs should also be great but it will be hard to beat last year.  Last weekend there was a good showing of winter runs on the Bogy so after all this water we should be in for some good fishing for several days.  Extended weather forecast looks good.

Don’t forget to book early for April, May and June Ling Cod and Halibut trips out of LaPush.  I hate to say this at the beggining of winter steelhead season, but I cannot wait for 2012 summer salmon season!  Based on the number of 2 and 3 year old Chinook in the ocean last summer and the extraordinary amount of Chinook jacks returning this year we should have another great summer for Chinook.  La Nina conditions usually create great conditions for our juvenile salmon and the food chain.  Hope our Coho can begin to rebound, it would be nice to have a great Coho return and a great Chinook return all in the same summer!  I will keep everyone posted on projections as I get them.  Give us a call.
